He began his career at Rutgers University studying molecular mechanisms of Parkinson disease and collaborating with researchers to provide pathology assessment in areas of environmental toxicology, neurodegenerative diseases, and cancer research. Later he joined the discovery pathology groups at Merck Research Labs in Palo Alto, California. At Merck he was involved in designing and validating assays in their high-profile biologics discovery division. He served as pathologist and subject matter expert on multiple biologics discovery teams. He was involved in several internal and outside collaborations evaluating potential clinical immunohistochemistry biomarkers. At Merck, Dr. Gibson was involved extensively in evaluating immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, in-situ hybridization, target validation, tissue cross-reactivity, biodistribution, cross-species comparison (mouse, cynomolgus, rhesus, human). He was also involved in generating data and preparing manuscripts for target dossiers, internal seminars, and technical documents for regulatory filing.
Dr. Gibson later worked for DuPont in the Science and Technology division at Haskell Global Centers for Health and Environmental Sciences.
